Our Dungeness Wellness Day was a real success — and the feedback from carers has been amazing. Many told us how much they valued the time, the company, and the calm. We’re already looking forward to planning more events like this.
It was a day of fresh air, friendship, and well-earned rest. Carers enjoyed a proper break, knowing that if the person they care for wasn’t able to take part in the activities, they were being looked after by our trained team.
The day began with a gentle and thoughtfully planned wellness session, tailored to all ages and abilities. Whether carers joined from a mat or a chair, everyone found a moment to breathe, stretch, and reset.
After that, RSPB staff and volunteers led a calming walk through the nature reserve. It was the perfect mix of birdwatching, learning, gentle exercise, and connecting with others.
Back at base, we shared lunch, cake, and hot drinks — but more importantly, laughter, conversation, and companionship.
Carers and those they care for may have arrived as individuals, but many left as friends.
A huge thank you to RSPB Dungeness for their hospitality, their facilities, and the shuttle bus from our Herne Bay office. Most of all, thank you to the RSPB staff and volunteers for your warmth, kindness, and supportive presence throughout the day.
We’re full of ideas for the future — and we’d love to hear yours too. If you have suggestions or want to partner with us to create more special days like this for unpaid carers across Kent, please get in touch.

Some testimonials from Carers after the event
"Thank you so much for a wonderful day at the Bird Sanctuary at Dungeness. I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot about birds and plants. The yoga was great too although I found out that I am not as flexible as I used to be.
It was good to meet up with other carers too."
